Thousands of fans showed up to show to see the national team of Iceland return home to Reykjavik, and to show their appreciation.
If there was one story that everyone got behind at this year's European Championships, it was this unbelievable tale of a small island nation of 325,000 people that threatened to upset everybody.
Iceland's story proved that hard work and an emphasis on grassroots-development can be successful, no matter how limited the resources nor how small the talent pool.
France proved to be too tall a task in the end for Iceland, but they bowed out with the respect and admiration of pretty much the entire world, not least their own fans. The team arrived home as heroes, as fans lined the streets of Reykjavik to show their appreciation.
Even more impressive, though, was the one final Viking clap that the fans gave their idols. If anything perfectly sums up the Icelandic spirit and heart, it is this. It is a pure, spine-tingling, hair-raising aura, the likes of which you cannot find anywhere else.
Skál, our Viking friends. We genuinely hope to meet you again in Russia. We'll have a ton of Varangian Guard jokes prepared.
