As late as the 88th minute, Bremen trailed 2-0 after a thoroughly frustrating match. That was until a stunning goal by Lee Buchanon gave Bremen a sniff just before the two sides entered added time.
Then all hell broke loose.
In the 93rd minute, Dortmund surrendered its lead as Niklas Schmidt headed home from just over twelve yards out. Then, just as soon as Dortmund lost two points, its capitulation was completed. Oliver Burke pounced onto the end of a dangerous through ball and smashed his shot past Gregor Kobel at his near post in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
With a 3-2 comeback win over Dortmund, Werder Bremen is the first team in the last 13 seasons of the Top 5 European leagues to win when trailing by multiple goals entering the 89th minute. Teams were previously 0-8511-18 (W-L-D) under such circumstances. pic.twitter.com/H9XYJDLs25

Dortmund's play on the day was uncharacteristic, in that it struggled to create good scoring chances and instead capitalized twice from difficult positions. After full-time, Werder perhaps deserved to win based on expected goals with a 1.43 to 0.29 advantage.

Even with the introductions of Gio Reyna and Niklas Süle, Die Schwartzgelben would have expected to close out the match and complete a somewhat undeserved win at home. But instead, a monumental comeback gave Bremen its first win of the new season, and the traveling fans a day they will never forget.
