Chicharito Ends 6 Month Goal Drought With Clinical Header

Great news for anyone who can count Javier Hernandez among their favorite players, the Mexican international ended a goal scoring drought that had plagued his season since October.

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez scored the second goal in what would end up being an easy victory for Real Madrid over Eibar. The win, and Chicharito’s finish, were clinical:

The goal was his fourth on only six shots for Real Madrid, continuing the superlative scoring rate that he established at Manchester United.

Chicharito has faced widespread criticism for his supposed lack of production at Real Madrid, but his scoring rate suggests he simply has not been given a chance. Whether or not he has done enough in training to earn the right to receive said chance is unknown. He has had to compete for starting positions with Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, and two-time reigning Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid now sit 2 points behind Barcelona courtesy of the latter’s surprising draw against Sevilla. With only 7 league games remaining, those two points have become a perilously small gap compared to the four points that separated the sides going into the weekend.

Both clubs will face Atletico Madrid in the run to the end of the season. As the last remaining power on both of their domestic schedules, Atletico is the best hope Real Madrid has of Barcelona dropping points, a necessity if Los Blancos are to win the league.

Other tough fixtures remaining for Barcelona are Valencia and Real Sociedad.
