After trouncing Thailand 13-0 to begin FIFA Women’s World Cup play, the question facing the USWNT heading into Sunday’s match against Chile was both how many goals they’d score and — uh oh — how they’d celebrate those goals.
We got our first sense of the answer in the 11th minute when Carli Lloyd made history by scoring in her sixth straight World Cup game. It was a ridiculous half-volley from the 36-year-old and she celebrated with a polite golf clap in front of the bench. The zeitgeist rolls on.
