Barca Loses First Ever Match To Leganes, Real Gets Hammered By Sevilla In Wild LaLiga Day

It looked to be business as usual in LaLiga on Wednesday after leader Barcelona took a 12th minute lead against bottom-of-the-table Leganes thanks to a wonder goal orchestrated by Lionel Messi and finished by Philippe Coutinho.

Given Leganes’ lowly standing in the table and the fact that the Madrid-based club had never defeated Barca in league play, it was simply a question of how many more sensational goals the Catalan club would score at the Butarque — the Blaugrana even controlled 78 percent of possession throughout the entirety of the match!

But they lost.

In the 52nd minute, Nabil El Zhar equalized for the home side with a header while Barca’s entire backline stood around.

One minute later, Leganes took the lead thanks to Gerard Pique doing dumb things.

With Real set to take on Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez directly after, it looked like one Madrid club had done the other a massive favor — Real simply needed a draw to go top.

But they lost too. In fact, they got hammered.

In a 22-minute first half span (between the 17th and 39th minutes), Sevilla scored three goals to effectively end the match before halftime.

Andre Silva got the first. (What a strange pass by Marcelo in his own half.)

Four minutes later, Sevilla broke like rascals on a Real Madrid corner and quickly scored at the other end with Silva registering his second.

Then, in the 39th, Wissam Ben Yedder scored with Sergio Ramos seemingly expecting Thibaut Courtois to come off his line and collect it.

Hey! Who put this tweet here?

Anyway, Atletico’s back in the race and Sevilla’s only three back while Barcelona still leads on goal difference. And to think that Neymar left this joyous pandemonium to join a team that’s now enjoying an eight-point lead in Ligue 1 after only seven matches. What a joke that is.
