Barcelona knocked Real Sociedad off the top of LaLiga by defeating them 2-1 Wednesday at the Camp Nou. If you’re a Blaugrana supporter, you’ll only want to see the opening 45 minutes, when Willian José’s opener against the run of play was sumptuously canceled out by Jordi Alba before Frenkie de Jong gave Barça a deserved lead at halftime.
However, as beIN SPORTS commentator Ray Hudson said, it was “a magisterial first half followed by an absolute circus.”
The second 45 saw Antoine Griezmann — now sporting braids like everyone you meet in FIFA Pro Clubs — provide the miss of the season before Sociedad took total control. Most notably, José and Alexander Isak forced Marc-André ter Stegen into a tremendous double save in the 84th-minute to preserve all three points for Barcelona.

Sociedad was without both David Silva and captain Mikel Oyarzabal due to injury, but la Real absolutely hammered the home side in the second half. Questions will be asked of Ronald Koeman’s decision to leave both Philippe Coutinho and Riqui Puig on the bench for the entirety of the match, but Barcelona climbed to fifth place for now.
Atlético Madrid is six points ahead of Barça and still maintains a game in hand. Lionel Messi and company return to action on Saturday against Valencia.
