Andres Guardado Will Probably Miss The Confederations Cup Playoff

A Dutch newspaper reported Thursday that Mexico captain Andres Guardado would be out for approximately six weeks because of an ankle injury he suffered against Manchester United in the Champions League Tuesday.

This is a big blow to Mexico, as that time frame puts the midfielder out for Mexico's Confederations Cup playoff Oct. 10 against the United States.

Guardado is on Mexico's 35-man provisional roster for the match, and it will be interesting to see if Mexico interim manager Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti keeps Guardado on the squad in hopes that Principito can recover in time.

Guardado's club, PSV, confirmed to MLSsoccer.com that Guardado had suffered ligament damage to his ankle, but they as of yet have not given a timeline for his return.

Regarded as one of Mexico's best players, Guardado won the Golden Ball as the best player in the Gold Cup earlier this summer.
