Parody in European football is a rarity. Typically, in domestic leagues there are several clubs that dominate the table and even fewer that are traditionally crowned champions. As of right now, Europe’s top five leagues consist of 98 teams. In the past decade those leagues have crowned 15 different champions. No one league has had more than four unique champions.
However, Turkish Super Lig club Sivasspor is on a historic run for its first-ever league title.
The Super Lig is no different than the top divisions of Europe. Since the 2010-11 season the same three clubs (Galatasaray, Besiktas and Fenerbahce) have won the league. Sivasspor is looking to break the mold and claim the title.

Sivasspor came close to glory in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, finishing fourth and second. Since then the road has been up and down for the Turkish side. It was not long ago that Sivasspor was playing in the second tier of Turkish football after being relegated from the Super Lig in 2016.
This season didn’t start promising either. Sivasspor only scraped together two wins from its opening seven games. Since then, the club has gone undefeated in its past 11 league games.
On Sunday Sivasspor extended its undefeated streak with a big away victory against Turkish giant Beskitas.
The victory was huge for the club and fans took to the snowy streets to celebrate.

There's still a large portion of the season left to be played. Sivasspor sat on top of the table for the majority of the 2008-09 season before falling short. This time around. the club will look to harness its inner Leicester City and shock the world.
If Sivasspor holds on to the top spot it will become the sixth unique champion of the Super Lig since its inception in 1959.
