Reports have been flying around that Real Madrid have seen a €50 million offer for fullback David Alaba rebuffed by Bayern Munich. Apparently, that monumental figure was enough to throw the Austrian off his game because he just did this in a friendly for Austria against Malta.
Wow. We're pretty sure that is the exact opposite of what you want to do when clubs are offering obscene amounts of money for your services. That was even more disappointing to watch than the second season of "Fear The Walking Dead" (don't even act like you enjoyed it).
That was akin to watching Mr. Bean and the Three Stooges playing Jenga. Watching that ball roll slowly towards its inevitable painful conclusion was even more stressful than that stupid spinny top at the end of Inception. Friendly or not, this moment is surely a level of hell in David's Inferno.
Maybe he was just trying to give Malta a break. After all, they are rated 157th in the FIFA world rankings. Yeah, we'll go with that. You're a nice guy David Alaba. You just wanted to give the Malta fans something to cheer about.
In his defence he clearly told the goalkeeper to pass it out to the flanks. Maybe he was just teaching him a lesson. After all, Austria were 2-0 up in the 87th minute in a friendly against one of the smallest teams in Europe. Perhaps Alaba was making a dramatic statement to his goalkeeper to listen to his defense for once and stop screwing around.
Or maybe it was just hard to see with all those dollar signs in his eyes (Or Euros. Whatever. You get the idea.) Whatever the case may be, we can't look away. David Alaba is good for the odd screamer at the other end of the pitch, so of course it follows that he scores a pretty mean own goal as well.
Just try not to do that in the Euros, mate.
