Rival de México pierde delantero para el Mundial por caso de dóping

La selección de Arabia Saudita, rival de México en el Grupo C del Mundial, se vio forzada a retirar de su nómina para el torneo al delantero Fahad Al-Muwallad debido a un caso pendiente de dóping.

La telenovela de Al-Muwallad, quien jugó como titular en varios partidos de la clasificación de Arabia Saudita al Mundial, es larga.

El delantero de Al-Shabab recibió una sanción de 18 meses de parte del comité antidóping de Arabia Saudita en mayo pasado, luego de haber dado positivo por furosemida, un diurético que oculta el uso de anabolizantes. Sin embargo, un tribunal deportivo local redujo el castigo y le permitió al jugador reintegrarse a la actividad en agosto.

Todos parecían felices, menos la Agencia Mundial Antidopaje (WADA) que recientemente apeló buscando una mayor extensión del castigo, sobre todo considerando que Al-Muwallad ya había sido suspendido por un año en 2019 por otro caso de dóping. 

Drama tras drama. Y por lo mismo, el técnico Hervé Renard y la federación de Arabia Saudita decidieron ahorrarse dolores de cabeza extra y comunicaron que apartaban al jugador "como medidad precautoria".

En reemplazo de Al-Muwallad, Renard llamó de emergencia al veterano de Al-Shabab, Nawaf Al-Abed.

Arabia Saudita debutará el martes 22 de noviembre ante Argentina, luego enfrentará a Polonia el sábado 26 y cerrará su participación en el Grupo C vs. México, el miércoles 30.
