Diego Lainez Puts In Virtuoso Performance And Is Named To Liga MX Team Of The Week

After missing four matches due to an ankle injury caused by teammate Bruno Valdez during training, 18-year-old Club America phenom Diego Lainez made his full return on Saturday by starting his first Liga MX match since Aug. 23. Matt Miazga’s BFF certainly looked back to his best in America’s 3-0 win over Tijuana, going the full 90 minutes and scoring a golazo in the 59th minute.

VAR To Make Liga MX Debut Friday For Atlas Vs. Veracruz

Video Assistant Referee is the future, whether old people (read: the English Premier League) want to admit it or not. Thankfully, Mexico is finally jumping on the train, as we’ll see VAR in Liga MX for the first time this weekend.

IFAB, the International Football Association Board, has approved Liga MX to use VAR in nine upcoming matches, starting Friday with Atlas hosting Veracuz.

Mexico’s Liga MX Could Combine With MLS By 2026 — Seriously

Liga MX in Mexico and Major League Soccer in the U.S. and Canada are the two preeminent soccer leagues in North America. They might be joining together in a Liga MX MLS super-league of sorts by 2026.

Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla said it’s a possibility after the countries worked together to win hosting rights for the 2026 World Cup.

Is This The Chivas FIFA Club World Cup Jersey?

Chivas Guadalajara is going to have a new look come the FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, and we’re not talking about the absence of the man who led the team to the Concacaf Champions League title (Matías Almeyda was actually named head coach of the San Jose Earthquakes on Monday). According to the latest leaks, Chivas will debut a new jersey for its December quarterfinal matchup against the AFC Champions League winner (one of Kashima Antlers, Suwon Bluewings, Al-Sadd or Persepolis).

Water-Logged Pitch Leads To One Of The Greatest Rain-Assisted Goals Of All Time

24-year-old Mexico international Jesus Gallardo scored his first goal for Monterrey last night, and it was easily the greatest goal in the history of los Rayados

With torrential rain turning the pitch at Estadio BBVA Bancomer into soup during Monterrey’s Liga MX encounter with Club Tijuana, Gallardo used the treacherous conditions to embark on the sort of counterattack that hasn’t been seen since Kevin Costner was gunning around on a jet ski in Waterworld.

After Beating Maradona’s Dorados, Querétaro Players Invade Opponent’s Bus For Pics

Querétaro survived a late comeback attempt from Dorados de Sinaloa to advance 2-1 in the Copa MX Round of 16 on Wednesday at La Corregidora. But Los Albiazules players may have been more excited about meeting the Dorados coach than the win itself.

Who could blame them? The club is coached by Diego Maradona, who once won the World Cup in Mexico. After the match, Querétaro players invaded the Dorados team bus in search of photos with the Argentine legend.

Worst Offside Trap Ever Leads To Shock Club América Upset In Copa MX

After finishing Apertura Copa MX group play with a record of three wins, one draw and a +8 goal difference, Club América grabbed the No. 1 seed in the knockout bracket, setting up a clash with No. 16 seed FC Juárez, which advanced to the knockout stage by the skin of its teeth as the seventh-best second-place finisher.

Toronto FC Sucks Now So Of Course It Got Trashed By Tigres In Campeones Cup

The Campeones Cup was too much to ask of a team that’s completely fallen apart.

Last year, Toronto FC set all sorts of records as arguably the best MLS team ever put together. The Reds added a few parts during the offseason and reached the final of the Concacaf Champions League in April, arguably the best run in the tournament ever by an MLS club.

But that was TFC then.

This is TFC now.

Maradona Wins Dorados Debut, But The True Highlight Was Definitely Diego Cam

Diego Maradona’s debut as manager of Ascenso MX (Mexico’s second division) side Dorados FC coincided with the club earning its first win of the 2018 Apertura season, a 4-1 home victory over last-place Cafetaleros. Vinicio Angulo scored a hat-trick for Dorados, but the star of the show was obviously the 57-year-old on the touchline.
