Northern Ireland women's coach Kenny Shiels has apologised after drawing intense criticism for suggesting that women are "more emotional" than men, therefore making them more likely to concede two goals in quick succession.

The comments came after England's Lauren Hemp and Georgia Stanway netted twice each while Ella Toone also scored as Northern Ireland were beaten 5-0 in a 2023 Women's World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

There was but one major global international soccer tournament in 2021. For some reason, the coach who inspired an underdog victory in that competition wasn’t deemed worthy by FIFA to even be a finalist for the organization’s FIFA Best Coach of 2021 award. Not that we’re the least bit surprised; we’ve long learned to expect the worst from FIFA.

UEFA will change the format of its continental qualifiers for the Women's World Cup from 2023 following criticism over a lack of competitiveness, the head of women's football at the European soccer governing body, Nadine Kessler, has said.

Remember when all the USWNT haters were bashing the world champs after hanging 13 goals on Thailand at the 2019 Women’s World Cup? I’d love to see what those same critics would say about England’s 20-0 win over Latvia on Tuesday, though let’s be honest, they’re not paying attention anymore.

MANCHESTER, England — Host England was drawn alongside Norway, Austria and Northern Ireland for the group stage of the Women's Euro 2022 tournament, while holder the Netherlands was paired with Olympic silver medallists Sweden following Thursday's draw.

The tournament, originally scheduled for 2021, was pushed back a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will run from July 6-31, with London's Wembley Stadium set to stage the final.
