Soccer is the world’s greatest sport. It doesn’t matter where you are or what time of day it is, you can always find a ball and start a pickup game. It’s a beautiful game, but what makes it more beautiful is when you have the necessary equipment.
Many kids in Haiti have been playing soccer barefoot in gravel for years. Thanks to a soccer-loving family in New Jersey many kids will no longer have this issue.
Over 1,000 pairs of used cleats have collected and sent over to kids in Haiti, which allows them to play in shoes for the first time ever. The Grescek family started the charity 1KCleats4Kids with their extended family.
“We wanted to push the kids, and said, if we’re going to do this, we’re going to go for something really big,” said Jerry Grescek.
“We were just collecting cleats by the day, and it started to grow every day,” said Gavin Grescek.
“It’s all about kids helping kids,” said Jerry Grescek. “I tell my kids all the time, just imagine when you see their smiles – because for us, that’s going to be our closing moment.”
The Grescek family hopes to collect 2,000 pairs of cleats, which they plan to distribute to the needy kids within the United States. If you would like to donate or read more about the charity please visit 1KCleats4Kids.
