Timo Werner is a one-man wrecking crew right now. Southampton fans are probably wondering if he can be tried for murder after he destroyed the Saints defense with two rampaging goals in the first half on Saturday.
It was only a matter of time before Timo Werner went off in the Premier League. Thus far frustrated in four EPL matches, the Germany international finally broke through with two of the most spectacular goals we’ve seen this season.
Werner, who joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig over the summer, deserved assists on both goals he scored for his cutthroat, incisive play to give the Blues a 2-1 lead at halftime — one on a self-dummy and one chipping the keeper to himself.
Timo Werner Goals vs Southampton
Werner opened his EPL account with a marvelous dummy in the 15th minute. Allowing the ball to slip through his own legs, Werner nutmegged Jan Bednarek before racing in on goal. The 24-year-old then kept his composure as he was closed down by four defenders, somehow finding an inch of space to shoot on goal for the opener.

The setup was reminiscent of Pelé’s runaround move against Uruguay at the 1970 World Cup.
Werner may have one-upped himself about 12 minutes later.
Played in by a delightful longball from Jorginho, Werner again assisted himself by chipping keeper Alex McCarthy before nodding the ball over the line.

Unreal play from Timo Werner. Not much Southampton could do to defend either goal.
Danny Ings pulled one back before the break to make it 2-1 at halftime.
Oh and Christian Pulisic started for the first time this season but failed to make much of an impact in the first half. He was pulled in the second half in a defensive substitution that backfired as Southampton equalized late for a 3-3 draw.
