Joao Contreras is a lucky guy.
The second half of a 1-1 draw between Sport Aguila and Fuerza Minera in the Copa Peru was just about to start when there was a flash and a boom and a puff of smoke. Then Contreras was on the ground. It took a moment for the other players to notice that Contreras had been struck by lightning (a linesman in the area had also suffered effects from the bolt) before they rushed to his aid.
Original reports stated that Contreras died, but in fact he lived - and now he has quite the story to tell. The match was (obviously) suspended after the lightning strike. We feel obligated to warn readers that the following video is of a man getting struck by lightning, so take that into consideration before you click.
