Smith is not looking to slow down, continuing to extend her amazing goalscoring season with Portland.
Watch: Sophia Smith amazing goal vs. Kansas City Current
U.S. women’s national team star Sophia Smith scored an amazing goal to add onto her Golden Boot-chasing season with NWSL club Portland Thorns, scoring the only goal in her club’s 4-1 home defeat to the Kansas City Current on Sunday.
Smith received the ball in the middle of the pitch, Cruyff-turned past a defender and ran with the ball for over 25 yards before hitting a rocket to the second post. No one was going to stop her.

This was Smith’s 10th goal in 12 games with the Thorns this season, with the American now leading the Golden Boot race with eight games left of the campaign.
Smith made her return to the Thorns’ starting XI after missing their last game against Seattle Reign due to suspension. The 23-year-old was double-booked for time wasting, hiding the game ball under the team’s bench against North Carolina Courage in the closing minutes of the game.
The Thorns are fifth in the standings and will now prepare their upcoming match against Utah Royals on Saturday hoping to bounce back from their tough home loss.
