The race for he third and fourth places in the Premier League has been more exciting to watch than the race for first and second places this season. Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal fans alike watch nervously each weekend in hopes that their team takes home three points. Today, Arsenal traveled to St Mary's Stadium to face Southampton and earned a crucial three points.
The victory has lifted Arsenal's spirits and puts a damper on Manchester United's Champions League aspirations. Two great goals from Alexis and Giroud broke Arsenal's losing streak at St Mary's for the first time since 2003. Southampton showed creativity and tenacity throughout the match but lacked the ability to capitalize on their chances.
I would argue that the best player on Southampton was the pitch. Every grounds crew worker probably has a Ph.D. in geometry and landscape architecture. Seriously, look at this field. Manchester United won the Premier League grounds geam award for the 2016/17 season but it should be stripped and given to the Southampton grounds crew.
