If you ever forget that professional footballers are really just boys with a lot of money, remember this article. MK Dons midfielder Samir Carruthers was just banned from entering the Cheltenham Festival because he was pictured pissing into a pint glass.
And no, this wasn’t a case of him being intruded upon at home, or being caught stumbling in a back alley, it was a case of him taking a piss in public while wearing some very nice clothes, surrounded by other people wearing very nice clothes, in what we assume to be a very high class gathering. Although we might be wrong about that last part.
The Cheltenham Festival is a meeting in the name of equestrian competition (horse races, people) and it’s prize money is the second largest pot in horse racing in the United Kingdom. You would think that would mean the Festival is something to be taken seriously. Obviously Carruthers didn’t, and now the festival has banned him from returning.
In regards to images of inappropriate behaviour from yesterday, we have cancelled their booking for today.

Carruthers was predictably apologetic once he realized his actions were photographed and released to the world.
“I don’t want to be known as the idiot who urinated in a pint glass. I feel so embarrassed.
“I just want to say I’m sorry to everyone.”
“I’ve let the community down and I’ve let Milton Keynes down and I have to take the criticism that comes with it.”
“I’m meant to be a role model and I have to live by my actions now and I really am hurt by what I’ve done. It was a silly mistake and I just have to take everything that comes with it.”

Carruthers has also been fined two weeks’ wages by MK Dons, and he has been suspended for the club’s next game against Brighton as well.
With all do respect to Carruthers playing ability, I’m going to end this one with a reference to Harry Redknapp: Carruthers, this is why you play for f*** MK Dons.
