No top-flight club celebrates Oktoberfest like Bayern Munich, whether it’s players getting sloshed in lederhosen or jerseys created specifically for the beeriest time of the year. This season the German giants kicked off Oktoberfest in supreme style, with a delicious Leroy Sané free kick vs. Bochum that, like a frothy Märzen, really set the mood for a 7-0 victory on Saturday.

Normally starting this time of year, Oktoberfest was technically canceled in Munich this year because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, but Bayern Munich started its own party on Saturday at the Allianz Arena with a touchdown of goals against newly promoted Bochum. Joshua Kimmich had a brace, while Serge Gnabry, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and, of course, Robert Lewandowski all scored, the latter making it a record 13 straight home Bundesliga games with a goal. To make matters worse for Bochum, Vasilios Lampropoulos had one of the laziest, most unnecessary own goals of the season.
But the goal of the day was the opener from Sané, a 30-yard free kick struck with such venom the Bochum keeper couldn’t react.

Bochum certainly played Saturday’s match like the players were drunk. Here are all seven goals, including that own goal that really has to be seen to be believed. It wasn’t as bad as Lazio’s own goal earlier this week, but it will be more frustrating for Bochum because it was so avoidable.

Now I’m going to go buy one of those Bayern Oktoberfest kits and drink some beer. Does anyone have some lederhosen I can borrow?
