As the 2023-24 Premier League season approaches and players continue to transfer to new clubs it’s time to answer the all-important question. How many Americans play in the Premier League?
Here’s a list of the Americans expected to get some minutes in the EPL next season.
How many Americans play in the Premier League 2023-24
- Antonee Robinson, Fulham
- Tim Ream, Fulham
- Chris Richards, Crystal Palace
- Tyler Adams, Bournemouth
- Matt Turner, Nottingham Forest
- Auston Trusty, Sheffield United
- Luca Koleosho, Burnley
Honorable mentions:
- Folarin Balogun, Arsenal (Likely to get transferred/loaned)
- Ethan Horvath, Nottingham Forest (Likely to get transferred/loaned)
Realistically there could be six Americans getting minutes in the Premier League this season. The days of Christian Pulisic and Leeds United States of America are done, now we enter a new era.
Antonee Robinson
There was speculation that “Jedi” Robinson could make a big-money move to Manchester City as he was on Pep Guardiola’s radar. Instead, the star left back signed a new long-term contract with Fulham until 2028.
Last season Robinson made 35 EPL appearances and was terrific for the club paired with the next man on this list.
Tim Ream
Tim Ream is arguably the best American who played in the Premier League last season. He will turn 36 in October but is aging like a fine wine. He captained nearly every game he played in for Fulham and was a huge part of their fantastic campaign finishing 10th.
He missed the last five games of the 2022-23 season due to a fractured arm.
Chris Richards
Chris Richards is still looking for his breakthrough with Crystal Palace who he joined last season. In the 2022-23 campaign Richards was only selected in the starting eleven four times.
That could be the case again for the 23-year-old American if he’s unable to find a way out of playing second fiddle to the likes of Marc Guéhi and Joachim Andersen.
Tyler Adams
Tyler Adams will be in the Premier League again this season despite getting relegated with Leeds United during the 2022-23 campaign. Initially it looked like Chelsea had plans to sign Adams, but instead Bournemouth acquired the American.
The Cherries spent around $29 million for Adams which is the second most expensive transfer in the club's history. Expectations will be high for Adams.
Matt Turner
Matt Turner didn’t make a single appearance for Arsenal in the Premier League last season. He did have seven games between the Europa League and FA Cup.
In search of minutes the USMNT No. 1 goalkeeper made a $9 million move from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest. Last season Forest conceded 68 goals which was fourth worst in the league. Get those gloves ready Turner, you're going to have lots of saving to do.
Auston Trusty
Trusty is another American who left Arsenal on a permanent transfer this summer. He could make his Premier League debut on his birthday with Sheffield United who were promoted back to the Premier League last season.
Trusty joined Arsenal from the Colorado Rapids in 2022 but didn't make a single appearance for the Gunners. Instead he went on loan to Birmingham City where he had a fantastic campaign. He was named Birmingham's player of the season and caught the eye of the USMNT making his interational debut.
Luca Koleosho
Koleosho is elgible to play for the United States, Canada, Nigeria and Italy. He was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, but moved to Spain when he was 10 and played there for eight years in Espanyol's system.
In July he signed a four year contract with newly promoted Burnley. He started in their opener vs. Manchester City.
