According to Grant Wahl, 15-year-old San Jose Earthquakes academy talent Cruz Medina is currently on trial in with Bayern Munich while RB Leipzig and Mainz are also eager to get a closer look at the player while he's in Germany.
Medina hasn't signed a professional contract with the Quakes, but he currently plays for the U-17 side after winning the Golden Ball at the U-15 2021 MLS NEXT Cup. Medina was also called up for the USYNT U-17 January camp, where he trained for a week at IMG Academy in Florida.
Medina began his development with San Francisco Glens Soccer Club before joining San Jose's academy two and a half years ago. While balancing his school work, Medina has been making the daily drive from San Francisco to San Jose to pursue his dream of going pro.
"It's pretty hard. It's a sacrifice playing for a pro academy when you're in high school. I don't get to go to parties or stuff like that, but it's all worth it when you're trying to go pro," Medina told The Purple Couch. "My dream and my goal has always been to sign a professional contract. I think, right now, it's a realistic goal for me. ... I think just playing in Europe would be my dream. But a dream club, if I had to choose, would be Real Madrid."
How does Bayern Munich sound for now?
