The Seattle Sounders defense of their MLS Cup rolls on after a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Western Conference semifinals. Clint Dempsey’s brace at CenturyLink Field were the only goals of the two-legged tie with the Whitecaps landing only one shot on target over 180 minutes of play.
After a torturous 0-0 draw at BC Place, the opening 45 minutes in Seattle didn’t offer a whole lot more. In fairness to Seattle, they should’ve been awarded a penalty but referee Baldomero Toledo was nonplussed after the VAR was used.
But Seattle ensured their place in the Western Conference final with Dempsey providing the winner in the 56th minute. It was an excellent finish from the USMNT legend.

Dempsey then added the insurance goal in the 88th after getting on the end of a Victor Rodriguez ball.
