It would be unfair to call what is happening to Iker Casillas a downfall. He he’s taken a step down since the days of being known as the greatest goal keeper in the world, but that was always going to happen. Father time is undefeated. No, what he is going through just sucks to see, and at no point has it sucked more than when Casillas’ error against Braga over the weekend.
This is probably the worst blunder that has befallen Casillas since he moved to FC Porto from Real Madrid last summer, and the worst part is that he was arguably doing the right thing.
FC Porto was already losing. If they didn’t score, they would get zero points. If they let in a goal, they would still get zero points. Casillas was just trying to win the ball back at a desperate time so that his team could try and make one last attack before time expired. Of course, it went horribly wrong, but he did try to do the right thing.
At least he can be comforted by all of the trophies in his closet, unlike most of the poor schmucks that pull things off like Casillas’ error against Braga.
