After five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in eight years, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to wait an unreasonably long time for the next AFCON competition.
Algeria lifted the title in 2019 with Riyad Mahrez, Ismaël Bennacer and Raïs M'Bolhi shining for the Desert Foxes, but the follow-up tournament in Cameroon — originally slated for June and July of 2021 — has since been pushed back to January of 2022.
However, AFCON qualifying recommences this international break with the continuation of the group stage. The traditional powers of Ghana and Nigeria sit atop their respective groups, but there’s still work to be done for both Egypt (two draws so far) and the Ivory Coast (a shock defeat to Ethiopia last November).
To add to the excitement, PUMA has just released new home and away jerseys for its stable of African nations, including Egypt, the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Morocco and Senegal.
