We might’ve just witnessed the best assist of the year and one of the best of all time.
Watch: Insane back-heel assist in the Polish Ekstraklasa
In a match between Polish clubs Pogon Szczecin and Stal Mielec, a game where the away team’s starting striker scored a hat-trick to seal a comeback win, a single assist to set up one of the goals overshadowed every single goal and highlight in the match.
This assist will most likely shadow most match highlights for the rest of the year.
At just the fifth minute of the game, a cross into the box, without much prominence for an attempt at goal, turned into what could very well be one of the best assists of all time.
Facing the sideline at the time of receiving the ball, Mielec player Alvis Jaunzema set up teammate Ilya Shkurin with a filthy mid-air back heel assist to unlock the scoreboard, along with a new skill in the world of soccer.

Wrzutki Getingera - wszyscy wiecie jak cenię. Asysta Jaunzemsa - stadiony świata. No i wykonanie wyroku przez Szkuryna. Wszystko się zgadza. pic.twitter.com/uG5etmP6Ld

Cool as ice.
Someone go create the Puskas Award for the best assist of the year and send it directly to this man.
This was ironically Jaunzema’s first assist of the season after eight matches. He is 24 years old and is a regular in the Latvia nnational team roster.
