These are weird times in which we live. Soccer as we know it has come to a screeching halt, people are dying by the thousands to a highly contagious disease and we’ve all been forced to shutter up inside and stay away from our friends and family in order to protect those most vulnerable.
But life goes on, even in this oddly troubled world. USWNT superstar Alex Morgan, for one, is fulfilling a lifelong dream, one that will shift into a different dream any day now.
Morgan posted an inspiring message about her pregnancy this week, waxing poetic on this life-changing event, while not even wearing any pants. (Let’s be real here, how many people are actually still wearing pants these days?)
Morgan and her husband, former LA Galaxy midfielder Servando Carrasco, are expecting their first child this month. While issues with the novel coronavirus pandemic have complicated some parts of her journey, Morgan said “the last nine months have exceeded all hopes and expectations” she had.
Morgan’s introspective view on her pregnancy is a good reminder that the world hasn’t stopped revolving just because we can’t go out to restaurants or watch live soccer. It’s also a good reminder that athletes are human beings with their own hopes and dreams that often have nothing to do with the sports for which they’re admired.
Fortunately for Morgan, because of the global pandemic, she won’t have to rush back into playing shape for the 2020 Olympics, which were postponed to 2021.
But that hasn’t stopped the Orlando Pride striker from training as hard as ever, even while nine months pregnant. Just a few days ago, Morgan was putting in an impressive workout in her garage with a baby inside her.
Alex Morgan and Servando Carrasco have also used this downtime to help donate meals to those who need them in Los Angeles.
And all you’ve done during quarantine is watch Tiger King.
