Santiago Solari, El Futbolista Más Sexy Del Mundo En 2002, Es El Nuevo Entrenador Del América

Hay nuevo sheriff en Coapa. Santiago Solari será el entrenador del América de México durante el Torneo Guardianes 2021. El argentino reemplaza a Miguel Herrera, quien fue despedido recientemente tras las lamentables escaramuzas que protagonizó en las semifinales de la CONCACAF Champions League ante el LAFC, el pasado 19 de diciembre.

El rosarino de 44 años se impuso a la opción del uruguayo Robert Siboldi y trae en su currículum una serie de elementos destacados, entre ellos la etiqueta de “galáctico”, un Mundial de Clubes y hasta el título de “futbolista más sexy” del año 2002.

“Reconocimos que Solari cuenta con un perfil idóneo para nuestro proyecto deportivo. A lo largo de su carrera como futbolista y director técnico ha sabido cumplir con éxito las exigencias y objetivos de equipos como el Club América, cuya única meta es el título,” dijo Santiago Baños, presidente de Las Águilas al confirmar la noticia.

Su carrera como entrenador si bien es corta, no es poca. Contempla divisiones inferiores del Real Madrid, el Real Madrid Castilla y un interinato en el primer plantel merengue durante la temporada 2018-19. En ese puesto, dirigió 32 partidos en los cuales obtuvo 22 triunfos, dos empates y ocho derrotas. También ganó el Mundial de Clubes.

Como jugador, Solari brilló en el River Plate a mediados de los noventa. Luego saltó a Europa con el Atlético de Madrid para la campaña 1999-2000 y un año después le cometería un acto de traición a los colchoneros al firmar con el Real Madrid. Ahí se convirtió en actor de reparto en la era de los “Galácticos”, junto a Iker Casillas, Roberto Carlos, David Beckham, Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo y Raúl.

En esa época, además, recibió un curioso premio: el “futbolista más sexy del año” 2002, organizado por Canal+. Al recibir el galardón, Solari se lo tomó con humor. “Agradezco mucho a la gente que me ha votado, pero seguro que el premio está amañado,” afirmó.

¿Sus vínculos con México? Santiago Solari jugó en el Atlante en la temporada 2009-10 , mientras que su tío Jorge Solari dirigió al mismísimo América en 1997. Su mandato se extendió por 35 partidos (18 victorias, nueve empates y ocho caídas) y no añadió títulos a las decoradas vitrinas de Las Águilas.
