Pochettino would become the new USMNT boss after a plethora of rumors linking managers from around the world, most specifically from Europe, to the vacant head coach position following Greg Berhalter's sacking post-Copa América 2024.
The Argentine is coming off a turbulent stint with Chelsea in the Premier League during the 2023-24 season, abruptly sacked at the end of the campaign. Pochettino had previously managed Paris Saint-Germain — coaching stars the likes of Neymar Jr., Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi — in the Ligue 1 for the 2022-23 campaign.
The 52-year-old is most notably known for his time managing Tottenham Hotspur between 2014 and 2019, leading the club to their first-ever UEFA Champions League final in 2018.
Pochettino is ‘expected’ to be officially announced as new U.S. head coach in the coming days or weeks, as the USSF had previously expressed their wish to announced the new manager before the September international break. The USMNT will face Canada and New Zealand on Sept. 7 and 10 respectively.
