On Monday, May 2, Giovani Dos Santos was named in Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio’s 40-player preliminary squad. On Sunday, May 8, Dos Santos showed why with a dominant performance in the LA Galaxy’s 4-2 victory over the New England Revolution.
His thunderous volley in the 24th minute put the Galaxy up 2-0, and he would go on to be directly involved in the Galaxy’s third goal scored by Robbie Keane. Dos Santos’s volley was an MLS Goal of the Week contender, an award that Dos Santos was unlucky not to win earlier this year when he delicately chipped Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando.
The 26-year-old Dos Santos has now scored five goals in six appearances this season to go along with 3 assists. His thunderous 20-yard volley on Sunday was his finest goal in MLS to date. Hit with power, accuracy and a vicious curve, New England’s Bobby Shuttleworth could only desperately lunge at an effort that absolutely flew by him.

The Galaxy appear to have found their rhythm this season, and no player has played a bigger part in their transformation than Dos Santos. The Galaxy are currently in second place in the Western Conference, trailing the Colorado Rapids by only two points.
