Alyssa Naeher Shows Why She’s The USWNT No. 1 In NWSL Opener

The seventh season of NWSL play kicked off on Saturday, and the 2019 campaign will attract more attention than ever since it falls in a World Cup year. With 52 days to go until the main event in France, international players remain with their club sides for the time being.

However, that’ll soon change, and USWNT call-ups will expect to miss around two months of the season (the Send-Off Series begins on May 12 vs. South Africa and the World Cup final takes place on July 7), although the NWSL will break for group stage play.

Tobin Heath Starts NWSL Season With Cheeky Performance

The 2019 NWSL season is underway and although everyone was too caught up on the new season of Game of Thrones, the Portland Thorns were busy upsetting the Orlando Pride in their opener on Sunday night. The Thorns proved to be the favorite after a cheeky performance from USWNT standout Tobin Heath.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Wears A Particular Soccer Jersey For Her Biweekly Workouts

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is probably America’s greatest badass. A lifelong fighter for women’s rights who joined the Supreme Court in 1993, she’s fought off cancer more times than you’ve fought off the urge to eat that last slice of pizza.

At 86, she’s doing her best to stay in shape, despite being diagnosed with cancer three different times (colon, pancreatic, lung). RBG’s biweekly workouts are no joke, as Stephen Colbert found out last year. Honestly, she works out more than I do and probably 90 percent of politicians in DC.

Abby Wambach Makes The Case For Equal Pay On The Daily Show With Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah is a soccer fan, this much we know. He made some great jokes about World Cup commentators last summer and followed it up with some powerful words on the Africanness of the French national team that won the tournament.

Hope Solo’s Life Story Getting Movie Treatment From Same Studio That Produced ‘Hacksaw Ridge’

Hope Solo is getting a movie deal.

The former USWNT No. 1 goalkeeper, who helped the U.S. lift the 2015 Women’s World Cup trophy, will have her life story developed into a feature film, a news release announced on Tuesday.

"Hope Solo is a force of nature who broke down walls in women’s sports, both as a player and as a humanitarian,” writer/director Christine Crokos said in the release. “Her story is one of pure trailblazing and fierce athleticism — one that many generations to come will honor and look up to.”

USWNT Honors '99ers At Halftime By Already Being 4-0 Up On Belgium

20,941 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles watched the USWNT put six past Belgium — five of them headers — on Sunday night in a celebratory World Cup warmup that included a tribute to the legendary ’99 squad.

It was the sort of match that Alexi Lalas will burn onto DVD, sharpie “Set Pieces” on and rewatch seven hundred times.

It all started in the 14th minute with Tierna Davidson lofting a direct ball into the box and there was Carli Lloyd, on her 271st appearance, to nod home.

Putting Alex Morgan's 100-Goal Feat Into Perspective

Alex Morgan has been a consistent impact player for the U.S. women’s national team. In her 2019 campaign, she has started and played in four games totaling 349 minutes for a total of 159 caps, ranking her 17th all-time in games played. She continues to add to her accolades after just being named the 2018 U.S. Soccer Player of the Year.

She finally reached her 100th goal at age 29 in an international friendly against Australia on Thursday in Commerce City, Colorado.

Remember When Mia Hamm Played Goalie At The Women’s World Cup?

Few players in the history of the sport have impacted women’s soccer as much as Mia Hamm. The feared striker retired as the all-time leader in international goals with 158 (later passed by former teammate Abby Wambach) and still holds the record for most USWNT assists with 145, a mark that may never be equaled.

USWNT Faces Australia At Stomping Grounds Of Pugh, Horan In Colorado

The U.S. women’s national team have been nothing but busy thus far in 2019. From being one step closer to equal pay, to being ranked No. 1 heading into the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the USWNT is proving its worth through its dominance both on and off the field.

The red, white and blue will be shown off again on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT when Lindsey Horan and Mal Pugh get to represent their home state of Colorado versus No. 6 Australia.

LUNA Bar Steps In Where USSF Failed, Closing Gender Pay Gap For USWNT With $700K Donation

The U.S. women’s national team just wants to be treated fairly and equally by the United States Soccer Federation. On Equal Pay Day — the date representing how far into the current year a woman must work to earn as much as a man earned the previous year — the USWNT received an unexpected boost toward equal pay.
