RONALDO RAGES DESPITE JUVE WIN

It’s really, really not supposed to happen now. 

It feels next to impossible at this point, although one look at the LaLiga table shows that Atlético Madrid, by virtue of a single point, still controls its own destiny in the title race with eight matches remaining following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis.

But the narrative has changed. Rather than the feel-good tale of a team tinkering with new methods of expression, this is now a horror story — and like all good depictions of the macabre, you cannot look away.   

LONDON - Late goals by Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood sealed Manchester United a 3-1 comeback win against Tottenham Hotspur, cementing their place in the Premier League top-four and leaving the London club's hopes of joining them looking slim on Sunday.

Cavani had a goal controversially ruled out in an otherwise dull first half shortly before Son Heung-min gave Tottenham a 40th-minute lead with their first shot on target.

TURIN, Italy - Juventus eased to a 3-1 victory over Genoa on Sunday to keep alive their faint hopes of making it 10 successive Serie A titles this season.

The champions raced into a comfortable lead inside 22 minutes thanks to goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Álvaro Morata, the Spanish striker converting after Cristiano Ronaldo had hit the post.

MILAN - A rare goal from full back Matteo Darmian earned Inter Milan a 1-0 victory over Cagliari on Sunday, as Antonio Conte's side closed on their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Struggling Cagliari were proving to be a tough nut to crack in the San Siro, with debutant goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario making several fine saves to keep the league leaders at bay.

BURNLEY - Frenchman Allan Saint-Maximin came off the bench to turn the game around for lowly Newcastle United as they came from behind to earn a vital 2-1 Premier League win at Burnley on Sunday.

Burnley had led through an 18th-minute goal from Czech striker Matěj Vydra and were well on top before substitute Saint-Maximin changed the game inside seven minutes with an assist and a goal.

Melbourne Victory forward Kyra Cooney-Cross scored directly from a corner in the final minute of extra time to help her team beat Sydney FC in the W-League Grand Final on Sunday and be crowned champions of Australia for the second time.

Melbourne created the majority of the chances at Sydney's Kogarah Oval in the latest edition of the "Big Blue" rivalry but needed a last-gasp effort to triumph thanks largely to the heroics of Sydney goalkeeper Jada Whyman.

Trinity Rodman scored her first career NWSL goal in record-breaking fashion, but it wasn’t enough to keep the N.C. Courage from claiming a 3-2 victory over the Washington Spirit on Saturday in the Challenge Cup. 

Sergiño Dest became the first American to appear in El Clásico in October. On Saturday he became the first American to score with his butt in El Clásico.

Dest’s rear end accidentally sent a Toni Kroos free kick into the back of the net for what proved to be the winner as Real Madrid edged Barcelona 2-1 on Saturday at a cold, wet and rainy Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium.
