With the only goal of the match, Rooney, 31, orchestrated a perfect homecoming to the club he left when he was 18. Everton's 1-0 victory over Stoke was a perfect way to start the season.
If Rooney can produce these sorts of moments consistently, Everton could be able to challenge for the top four. With all the money they've spent this summer, they should certainly feel like it's a possibility.
