Back in February, a policy was introduced in Spain that would limit and/or ban betting advertisements.
The proposal came after government officials stated that casinos and gambling are a growing addiction in the country. The goal is to limit exposure to gambling companies and casinos.
The policy limits advertising times on the radio, television and streaming sites like YouTube to a four-hour time slot from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Spain’s LaLiga’s sponsorship pools are mainly gambling companies and the new policy bans these advertisements from appearing on jerseys, which means teams will have to change their kits a bit.
Valencia, Alavés, Leganés, Granada, Mallorca, Sevilla, Osasuna and Levante have main shirt sponsorships from betting companies. We’ll see how much their kits change.
Not only are jerseys subject to change, this also applies to stadium names and any other aspect of club sponsorship. Officials speculate that the policy will soon pass and act as a starting point for the 2020-21 season.
