We posited on Tuesday that Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is the most disrespectful player in the game. But Firmino does his dirty deeds to opponents. Ricardo Quaresma is disrespectful to referees. Which is worse?
Before Firmino scored his naughty no-look goal against Sevilla, Besiktas winger Quaresma pulled off this little maneuver, nutmegging the assistant referee while waiting to take a corner kick against Porto in their Champions League match.
That’s just cold; the poor referee had no idea he would be on the receiving end of the most embarrassing move in sports.
Quaresma is known for pulling off the spectacular, like this absurd goal earlier this season, not to mention this incredible strike. But nutmegging the referee takes things to a new level.
To be fair, the ref was asking for it. You can’t stand in front of a ball with your legs spread shoulder width and not expect to become a human wicket. It almost would have been worse had Quaresma not taken the opportunity.
And, of course, it was all in fun, Quaresma laughing with the AR as he prepared to finally take the corner kick.
The match finished 1-1, which was good enough to see Besiktas ensure first place in the group. Porto and RB Leipzig are tied for second on seven points. The final match day will see Leipzig face Besiktas and Porto take on AS Monaco as Porto and Leipzig battle for the right to move on in the Champions League or fall into the Europa League.
