Bayern Munich has the best YouTube channel of any professional soccer team on the planet. They post videos of pretty much everything, from Pep Guardiola’s whimsical training drills to Mario Gotze’s impressive training goals. If you love the Bavarians, the channel is simply Cloud 9. If you love soccer, well it’s still probably Cloud 7 or 8. And with the arrival of one of the more unexpected uploads in the channel’s recent history, if you love basketball, you might just reach Cloud 10 - because who doesn’t like to know that they are better at a sport than a world-class athlete?
We knew that soccer takes over professional footballers’ lives at an early age, but we didn’t know it was to the exclusion of every other sport. These guys can probably count the number of times they have played basketball on their fingers and toes. They don’t even know how to use “swish” properly. The one that gets called out at the end of the video hits the back of the rim as it goes through.
Besides the fact that they are all laughably bad, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller are definitely the best players on the court. Lewy has a nice fake pass followed by a drive, and a sweet cross-over followed by a blown layup, both of which place him firmly in the 60th percentile of the world’s basketball-playing population, and Muller hits a jump shot. Seriously, his jump shot is one of the two hit in all 5:30 of this video.
According to some of the comments on YouTube, Philip Lahm actually has some skill in the game. Let’s just say after watching this we’ll have to see it to believe it.
