Liverpool haven’t been in the Champions League for a while, so when they had the chance to travel to Madrid for their matchup against Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid, it was no surprise that these Brits got a little out of hand.
It was friendly, of course, but Liverpool supporters rallied in the Plaza Mayor in Madrid which caught the attention of Madrid’s police force. Liverpool supporters were tying up banners and kicking the ball around the plaza before the police intervened. In classic fashion, they then started a quick game of keep away from the police, which only added to the entertainment in the Plaza. The police then decided to ruin the fun by arresting one guy. In fairness to the Madrid Police, the Liverpool supporters did end up making a complete mess of the Plaza, which is not cool. Then again, things could be worse. A little trash is nothing compared to the flares Galatasaray fans have been hurling at people.
Nonetheless it was funny watching the police scramble over something that really didn’t matter in the scheme of things. Everyone knew Los Merengues were going to get the victory, so let the Reds have a bit of fun before their eventual beating.
