It was the kind of night you get dressed up for.
A record MLS crowd of 82,110 watched El Tráfico at the Rose Bowl on July 4th, and although the LA Galaxy won the match 2-1, LAFC's Kellyn Acosta won hearts and minds with the greatest custom boots to ever grace a professional pitch.
Emerson is his son's name.
On heel features the American flag and the other has Japan's. Acosta's father is Japanese American.
The inspiration for these Tiempos comes from the Kobe 6 Mambacita and pays homage to Kobe and GiGi Bryant. Acosta aims to emulate the "Mamba Mentality" every time he enters the pitch.
The man behind the process was "The Surgeon," Dominic Ciambrone, who's amassed a large following by creating custom, one-of-one cleats and shoes. This collaboration, however, was the first pair of in-game worn customs.
The removable tongue — inspired by the 1994 Nike Tiempo Legend III — was taken off for the match, which is totally understandable but also a shame. Ultimately it wasn't a great game for Acosta. He got taken off at halftime with LAFC losing 1-0.
Still, his feet looked nice during his 45 minutes on the pitch.
