On Friday, USA TODAY Sports revealed that sporting power couple Julie (USWNT, Chicago Red Stars) and Zach Ertz (Philadelphia Eagles) had pledged to provide 2,500 meals to local food banks for every touchdown scored over the Eagles next three home games at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Ertz Family Foundation announced the “Holiday Touchdowns for Meals” campaign last Thursday with the following message:
“This holiday season we are joining forces with The Athletes’ Corner with one goal in mind, to help feed our city. It has always been an amazing feeling to help our city and to be able to provide thousands of meals to our community takes it to another level. With this holiday program, we look forward to celebrating touchdowns together with Philadelphia.”
Holiday Touchdowns for Meals kicks off tonight at 8:20pm EST on NBC! We can’t wait to see how many families we can feed in Philly with all the EAGLES Touchdowns tonight! To join us please go to: https://t.co/EWAzkpMx3J to help us feed Philly! @ErtzFoundation #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/hJ5cGmb35N

Things got off to a fine start on Sunday with the Eagles defeating the Dallas Cowboys 23-9 by way of three touchdowns (7,000 meals). If Zach himself scores, the amount of meals jumps to 5,000, but the 29-year-old has now been ruled out for an extended period of time with an ankle injury.
