A Lazio goalkeeper goal vs. Atlético Madrid on Tuesday was the biggest highlight of UEFA Champions League action on the day.
Lazio trailed 1-0 in the final seconds of the game and their Italian goalkeeper Ivan Provedel became the most unlikely hero. After coming up for a corner kick he timed a perfect run and fired in a beautiful headed goal.
This looks like a trained center forward scoring this goal!

According to CBS this is only the second time in UEFA Champions League history that a goalkeeper has scored from open play. The only other example we could find of a non-penalty kick goal from a goalkeeper in the Champions League was Eloy Casals scoring for Andorran side FC Santa Coloma in a first round qualifier.
Provedel definitely wins the award for best goalkeeper goal in Champions League history. This actually wasn’t the first time the 29-year-old has scored in his professional career.
In February 2020 he scored a later equalizer for his Serie B club Juve Stabia.
This wasn’t Provedel’s first goal as a goalkeeper…He also scored in 2020 in Serie B.

If Provedel keeps up this heading business, he might become the solution for the Italy national team’s search for a center forward.
