Police in Manchester busted an illegal Premier League football streaming center today.
Detectives made an arrest on a 27-year-old man in Cheetham Hill and said it was one of their biggest busts yet. The squad of officers who raided the site described an "industrial-scale" bank of computers and hi-tech equipment supporting the illegal streaming sites.
The set up included 12 computer servers streaming sporting events from across the world. Illegal streaming is said to cost the television industry £10 million each year.
Danny Medlycott, head of the PIPCU (Police Intellectual Property Crime), said that, “todays operation sends out a strong message that we are homing in on those who knowingly commit or facilitate online copyright infringement.”
The EPL also announced a crackdown in social media users posting video clips of live matches recorded on their phones from their TVs, saying it is still illegal to share even isolated clips of match action.
