Franz Beckenbauer, a legendary player and Bayern Munich's honorary president, has said that now-departed midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger would be better off if he had transferred to Major League Soccer instead of Manchester United.
Schweinsteiger, who is set to become the first German to appear for Manchester United, will have to prove himself all over again in the premier league, Beckenbauer said.
Beckenbauer's comments, told to German newspaper Passauer Neuen Presse, included the following:
"People know Schweinsteiger at Bayern and know what he can do. That's not the case in England. He will have to prove himself all over again.
"Basti is 30 years old at the moment. I wish him all the best and hope he can represent German football well in England. Not a lot of players have succeeded in doing so.
"A move to MLS would have made more sense for me."
Schweinsteiger is only 30 years old though, so an eventual move stateside os not out of the question.
