Former Vitesse footballer Mourad Lamrabatte died after jumping off a cliff while his wife filmed last week. The fatal incident occurred in Mallorca on Thursday while Lamrabatte was on vacation with his wife and two children.
SBV Vitesse confirmed the death of its former youth player.
Lamrabatte was attempting to jump off a cliff into the ocean, a popular activity among tourists in Mallorca. The former footballer failed to clear the cliffs, located on the Malgrats Islands. An autopsy confirmed Lamrabatte died from drowning, having fallen semi-conscious in the water.
Footage exists of the leap as his wife was filming from a boat the family rented for the day. The couple’s two children were also aboard.
We have decided not to show images of the jump out of respect for the family, though you can find images here.
Lamrabatte was a member of the Vitesse U-23 team that won the U-23 cup in 2010-11. He scored one goal for the first team, in an exhibition match in June 2010.
“Vitesse wishes Mourad’s family and friends a lot of strength in coping with the great loss,” the club said in a statement.
