EA SPORTS FC 24 is only a couple months away from its rumored release date, and this week offers our first major glimpse at the franchise formerly known as FIFA — beginning with Monday's release of an official announce trailer (voiced by Daniel Kaluuya).
I'm also just now realizing that EA SPORTS is attempting to get us to transition from saying "FIFA" to "FC," which is pretty smart marketing. So here's our first look at FC 24.
Along with the trailer, EA SPORTS also revealed the cover athletes of FC 24's Ultimate Edition. I'm a big fan of the direction they took by including 31 different players on the cover, but I wish they would've used their real images rather than avatars.
I get the uncanny valley emotional response of feeling uneasiness and even a bit of revulsion looking at these things. Also, that's not 22-year-old PSG Ronaldinho at all. I don't know who that is.
But we've got two Americans on the cover: Mia Hamm and Trinity Rodman!
Back row (left to right): Marta, Mia Hamm, Marcus Rashford, Rudi Völler, Pelé, Zinedine Zidane, Bukayo Saka, Andrea Pirlo
Next row (left to right): Johan Cruyff, Alex Scott, Ronaldinho, Alexandra Popp, Juan Román Riquelme, Didier Drogba, Leicy Santos
Next row (left to right): Jude Bellingham, David Beckham, Vini Jr, Erling Haaland, Sam Kerr, Leah Williamson, Marquinhos, Youssoufa Moukoko
Front row (left to right): Alexander Isak, Selma Bacha, Alexia Putellas, Virgil van Dijk, Son Heung-min, Trinity Rodman, Federico Chiesa, Enzo Fernández
After Kylian Mbappé and Sam Kerr shared the Standard Edition cover last year, it looks like Haaland is set to be the cover star for 2024.
The next big event for FC 24 is on Wednesday, July 13, at 12:30 p.m. ET. There'll be an official reveal livestream on YouTube with details about the game, special guests and the Standard Edition cover reveal.
