Brenden Aaronson was given a red card in bizarre fashion on Saturday during Union Berlin’s 4-1 victory vs. Darmstadt.
In his second Bundesliga start with Union Berlin he had a nightmare of a day. It started off rough as he received a yellow card in the first five minutes for a high boot.
This card was debatable for being so early in the game but not too controversial.
Aaronson’s second yellow card was truly strange as the referee sent him off in the 21st minute for kicking the ball away after play was stopped.

Oh no. Aaronson's been sent off. Second yellow for kicking the ball away, even if he barely moved it more than a couple of metres. He trudges off disconsolately, he can't believe it. #SVDFCU #fcunion | 1-0 | 21'

This was incredibly harsh from the referee. To send a player off for something so minor is ridiculous. It appears the referee has the whistle stuck to his mouth, his hands stuck to his cards and a stick stuck right up his ass.
Aaronson was in awe of the decision.
The 22-year-old is trying his best to make a good impression for Union as he’s on loan from Leeds United for the season. His 2022-23 campaign was entirely forgettable and he’s looking to reinvent himself this season.
Saturday’s sending off was worst case scenario for Aaronson.
