Being the President of the United States has its perks. It opena a lot of doors. You can meet pretty much anyone you want. Except, as Barack Obama found out recently, Lionel Messi.
While visiting Argentina, Obama noted in a speech that his daughters had wanted to meet the reigning Ballon d'Or winner, but he couldn't make it happen. In contrast, they did get to meet Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church.
From President Obama's remarks:
But I also wanted to bring my daughters here, so they could see the beauty and the vibrancy of this city. They’ve already met one famous Argentinean -- His Holiness Pope Francis. Now they want to meet Messi, but I could not arrange that.
Either Messi was too busy to accomodate the POTUS and his daughters, or the Secret Service was afraid Messi would nutmeg Barack Obama, and they weren't about to let that happen.
We're going with the latter. And we don't blame the Secret Service one bit, either. Messi would have nutmegged them too.
