Chelsea Has One Foot In Carabao Cup Final Courtesy Of Outrageously Comical Spurs Own Goal

A ridiculous Tottenham own goal helped Chelsea to a 2-0 victory in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal. Ben Davies is the unlucky fellow credited for the own goal. There wasn’t much he could do after his fellow defender Japhet Tanganga headed the ball directly into Davies before nestling into the Tottenham net.

Tottenham Own Goal vs. Chelsea

The first half was a disaster from a Spurs point of view. Despite starting the likes of Harry Kane, Son and Lucas Moura, Tottenham looked lost. Chelsea may as well have been doing a training drill against 11 random guys wearing white shirts as Tottenham rarely saw the ball let alone in the Chelsea half.

Chelsea only needed five minutes to get on the scoresheet. Kai Havertz was given credit for the goal, but it was essentially another own goal for Tottenham. This will be a day to forget for Spurs defenders.

But hey while we’re talking about Tottenham own goals vs. Chelsea, lest we forget this moment of pure genius from Kieran Trippier.

The chances kept coming for Chelsea in the second half as the Blues outshot their opponents 19-5. If the second leg at Tottenham becomes a close score on aggregate, Chelsea can only look at the missed opportunities from Wednesday’s game.

As an American soccer media company we are legally required to tell you how Christian Pulisic did. Captain America was substituted into the game in the 79th minute. He won a free kick in the 85th minute that notorious drunk driver Marcos Alonso blasted into the wall.

Pulisic was forced to play in the right wing back position again and unfortunately got turned into a pretzel by Spurs’ Giovani Lo Celso.

The second leg of the semifinal will be played on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 2:45 p.m. ET.
