Mexico Internationals Lozano, Gutiérrez Continue To Tear Eredivisie To Pieces

The El Tri duo has nine goals in eight matches this season.

Right now, it doesn’t even seem fair.

PSV Eindhoven is absolutely eviscerating the Dutch Eredivisie this season and a pair of Mexico internationals is a major reason why, combining for three goals in a 4-0 win over VVV Venlo on Saturday.

The Boeren are pulling away atop the Eredivisie table with eight wins from eight. More impressively, they’ve done it while scoring 30 goals (3.75 per game) and conceding three.

Nearly a third of PSV’s goals this season has come from two players from one country: Mexico’s Chucky Lozano and Érick Gutiérrez.

The Hirving Lozano stats to start the season are staggering. He’s got seven goals in eight matches, including two more on Saturday. Chucky is the team leader in goals and trails league-leader Kristoffer Peterson of Heracles by one goal.

Gutiérrez, a former teammate of Lozano’s at Pachuca, has been a bit slower racking up the goals this season. Having joined PSV at the close of the transfer window at the end of August, the Mexico midfielder has had to work his way into Mark van Bommel’s lineup.

Gutiérrez didn’t make his debut with PSV until Sept. 15 but made an immediate impact, scoring a goal and assisting Lozano on another in a 7-0 rout of ADO Den Haag.

On Saturday he added his second of the year, a fine first-time finish to put PSV up 3-0 in the 87th minute, having come on as a sub 17 minutes prior.

But it’s the Hirving Lozano stats line that was most impressive on Saturday.

Chucky opened the scoring in the 34th minute, making a good run into the box and following it up with a clinical shot into the bottom corner.

Lozano’s second goal wasn’t anything special, except for the fact PSV selected the 23-year-old as its penalty kick taker. Lozano sent the keeper the wrong way to complete the 4-0 victory.

Everything is going swimmingly for Lozano, Guttiérez and PSV in the Eredivisie.

Not so much in the Champions League.
