Sam Coffey’s gold medal Squishmallow goes viral and makes teammate Sophia Smith jealous

United States women’s national team midfielder Sam Coffey needs to be the face of Squishmallow already. The Portland Thorns star shared that she has received a custom gold-medal Squishmallow following the USWNT’s victory in the Summer Games.

Coffey posted to her Instagram story on Wednesday that a family-friend stitched a gold medal onto the popular stuffed toy that comes in a variety of animal, foods and more. Her Squishmallow was a beet and the card said, “Way to ‘beet’ everybody.”

Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez has been banned for five international matches while several other players were also suspended for their involvement in clashes with fans following Uruguay's Copa America loss to Colombia in July, South American soccer's governing body said on Wednesday.

New Zealand captain Ali Riley has revealed her soccer career may be over due to the nerve injury that ruled her out of the Paris Olympics.

The 36-year-old defender was withdrawn from selection on the eve of the Football Ferns' opening match against Canada at the Games.

"Even now, when I don't know if I'll ever be able to play soccer again, that's the reality of the injury I have now," Riley told a Q&A session at an event promoting girls in sport in Los Angeles.
