What Does Dos A Cero Mean? Explaining The USMNT-Mexico Rivalry With One Score

The first time I heard it, I wasn’t quite sure what I was hearing. I attended the first USMNT-Mexico game after the 2002 World Cup meeting, a friendly in Houston, and kept hearing fans yelling “dos a cero.” I knew enough Spanish to translate the phrase, but I had no idea of the Dos a Cero meaning and history, let alone what it would turn into.

Little did I know back in 2003, but Dos a Cero would come to define the American perspective of the USA-Mexico men’s soccer rivalry for nearly two decades.

10 Athletes Who Successfully Came Back From Retirement

Seven-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Tom Brady ended his brief retirement on Sunday when he announced he would be returning for a 23rd season in the National Football League (NFL).

Following are 10 sporting greats who enjoyed success after coming out of retirement:

MICHAEL JORDAN (BASKETBALL)

Basketball great Jordan shocked the sport when he announced his first retirement at the age of 30, months after winning his third NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls in 1993.

Would Everton Be The Most Talented Team Ever Relegated From The Premier League?

A handful of times during the season, there are results that can only cause one reaction among neutral fans: laughter. Such matches are rare because they usually involve a larger club losing in embarrassing fashion. Arsenal's 5-0 loss to Manchester City in August certainly falls in this category, as does Manchester United's 5-0 defeat to Liverpool and 4-1 loss against Watford.

The 21st Century's Most Criminally Underrated El Clásico Matches

There are hundreds of "best El Clasico" list articles out there with very little discrepancy among them. Lionel Messi's 2017 last-minute winner before lifting his jersey to a stunned Bernabéu? Obviously. Gareth Bale's surging run in the 2014 Copa del Rey Final? Gotta watch it. The 2011 Champions League semifinals? Pure drama.

Leslie Ramírez Reabre El Debate De Qué Tan Mexicano Debe Ser Un Futbolista Para Poder Jugar En Chivas

17 Years Later, 40-Year-Old Joaquín Is Back In A Copa Del Rey Final With Real Betis

Real Betis' magical season had its finest moment yet Thursday as the club saw off Rayo Vallecano 1-1 at the Benito Villamarín to win its Copa del Rey semifinal 3-2 on aggregate, setting up a final against Valencia on April 23.

Rayo, which has never advanced to a Copa final in its history, struggled to create any chances of note at the Benito Villamarín as we approached the final 10 minutes of the match. It looked like the decisive goal would ultimately be the 68th-minute winner William Carvalho scored in the first leg back on Feb. 9 in Madrid.

Andriy Shevchenko Says 'Football Doesn't Exist For Me' As He Contemplates Returning To Ukraine

Ex-Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko called on Thursday for more aid and other measures in support of victims of the Russian invasion of his homeland.

Widely regarded as his country's greatest ever player, Shevchenko said global soccer authorities had done the right thing in banning Russia from international competitions, though the sport was currently the last thing on his mind.

From Kepa To Krul: A History Of Goalkeepers Subbed In For Penalty Kick Shootouts

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel's decision to bring on Kepa Arrizbalaga late in the 2022 EFL Cup Final was not unprecedented — both for Chelsea and the footballing world. Kepa had replaced Mendy in the waning moments of extra time in the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal earlier in the year, saving two penalties in Chelsea's shootout victory.

In fact, the Spaniard is an above-average keeper in his career when it comes to saving penalties.

Jesse Marsch Set To Become Third-Ever American Manager In Premier League With Leeds United

Jesse Marsch is rumored to fill the position of Marcelo Bielsa as manager of Leeds United after the club suffered a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday. If Marsch gets the job then you might ask, how many American managers have been in the Premier League? The Wisconsin native would become the third American to manage an EPL club.

Should Russia Be Banned From The World Cup? There’s Historical Precedent

This week, Russia initiated an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, the largest attack on a European nation since World War II. Amid global condemnation of the needless aggression and as Vladimir Putin turns his country into an international pariah, sports organizations have quickly moved to strip Russia of major events. While soccer isn’t the primary concern in Eastern Europe right now, many in the footballing world are wondering: Will FIFA ban Russia from the World Cup? Can UEFA kick Russian clubs out of its competitions?
