ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Feyenoord beat visitors Lazio 3-1 on Wednesday thanks to a double from Mexico's Santiago Gimenez and a strike from Ramiz Zerrouki to move top of Champions League Group E.

The Dutch champions could have taken the lead in the 25th minute when Gimenez's effort was disallowed after a VAR review, but he had another shot five minutes later from Mats Wieffer's pass which flew into the top corner of Ivan Provedel's net.

MANCHESTER — Harry Maguire headed a second-half goal and goalkeeper Andre Onana saved a penalty deep in stoppage time to power Manchester United to a 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday for their first victory in the Champions League this season.

Back in the competition after a one-year absence, Erik ten Hag's side moved into third place in Group A after collecting a precious three points after three games. Bayern Munich top the group with nine points after beating Galatasary 3-1 earlier.

United States men’s national team forward Gio Reyna is having a rough start to the 2023-24 club season with Borussia Dortmund. Reyna remained on the bench Wednesday as an unused substitute as Dortmund drew AC Milan 0-0 in the Champions League.

His USMNT teammates Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah both started for Milan, but Reyna would never see the field.

MANCHESTER — Manchester United's miserable season continued with a 3-2 home defeat by Galatasaray on Tuesday as Casemiro was sent off giving away a penalty which the Turkish side missed before scoring the winner to leave the hosts bottom of Champions League Group A.

A Lazio goalkeeper goal vs. Atlético Madrid on Tuesday was the biggest highlight of UEFA Champions League action on the day. 

Lazio trailed 1-0 in the final seconds of the game and their Italian goalkeeper Ivan Provedel became the most unlikely hero. After coming up for a corner kick he timed a perfect run and fired in a beautiful headed goal.

United States men’s national team fans might have felt discouraged on Tuesday to see the Christian Pulisic benched news. For the first time this season Pulisic wasn’t in AC Milan’s starting XI as the club hosted Newcastle to a 0-0 draw in their UEFA Champions League opener.

Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze started in Pulisic’s usual place on the right wing for his first start with the club. Chukwueze arrived from Villarreal in the summer.

The UEFA Champions League has long been considered the pinnacle of club football. With the best teams competing to be crowned Europe's elite, players get the perfect stage to showcase their abilities. The competition is where legends are born, and those legends don’t get bigger than the players with the most Champions League goals in history.
